India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma was the best player for India in 2019. Rohit Sharma had a fabulous year as he was able to deliver the goods in every condition. He will be aiming to carry on his good form to 2020 as well. Here are the 5 milestones awaiting Rohit Sharma in 2020.
Leading ODI run-getter for second straight year
The talisman ended as the highest run-getter of the World Cup as he scored 648 runs in the tournament. The Indian opener scored five centuries in the ODI showpiece event.
Furthermore, he ended as the highest ODI run-getter of the year. The flamboyant batsman scored 1490 runs in 28 matches at an average of 57.30 and a strike rate of 89.92 in 2019. Thus, Rohit batted at the top of his game in his preferred ODI format. He would be hoping to carry forward this into 2020 as well.
Cementing test opening spot
Rohit was also able to adapt to the Test opening slot with ease. The right-hander was at his best in the three-match Test series against South Africa as he smashed 529 runs in the four innings at a staggering average of 132.25. He would be hoping to cement his place as a test owner and would be aiming to carry forward his test form to the next year as well.
#1 ODI ranking
Having defeated his captain in the race for the leading runscorer in ODI’s for 2019, he would be hoping to finally push Virat back and gain the no.1 ranking in ODI’s. Currently standing tall at no.2 position, this seems a quite possible task for hitman if he can continue his good form.
5th IPL trophy
Having lead Mumbai Indians to record 4th title win last year, Rohit Sharma led team still starts as hot favourites for IPL 2020 season as well. He and his team would be hoping to get their hands on the IPL trophy for the 5th time as well, which could possibly push his name for the Indian limited-overs captaincy with greater force.
Limited-overs captaincy
If Virat lead Indian team fails in World T20 in Australia, there his a high chance of Virat losing his job as limited-overs captain or at least T20 captaincy. If that happens highly successful Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma would be the front runner for that role.
