Chasing 164, SRH on the back of the opening duo of Alex Hales (45) and Shikhar Dhawan (33) got off to a swashbuckling start and it took an absolute ripper from Amit Mishra to break the opening stand. Dhawan followed suit as he yorked himself off a loppy top spinner from the veteran leggie.
Skipper Williamson (32) and Manish Pandey (21 off 17 balls) resurrected Hyderabad’s innings before Pandey holed out to Shaw off Plunkett. With 28 required off 12 balls, Pathan clobbered Boult’s first ball for a six over long-off, before surviving an LBW scare with the ball pitching outside leg and then proceeded to smoke a four on the low full toss outside off on the very next ball. Boult gave away 14 off the penultimate over to reduce the equation to 14 of the six balls.
Williamson survived a run-out scare of the first ball before Pathan smoked a low full-toss for a six over straight over the bowlers head, and then proceeded to smoke a boundary off the next ball to reduce the equation down to 2, and Williamson knocked the requisite runs to complete a seven-wicket win for the team.
Earlier, Delhi Daredevils batted first with a new opening pair in Prithwi Shaw and Glenn Maxwell, but the move backfired In a bizarre turn of events when Maxwell (2 off 3 balls) got run-out at the non-striker’s end. His partner Shaw (65 off 36 balls) continued with his rich vein of form as he smoked the likes of Sharma (0-35) and Hasan (0-34) to all corners of the ground.
Shaw was ably supported by skipper Iyer (44) in a 86 run stand for the second wicket. But the wicket of Shaw off Rashid Khan (2-23) pegged Delhi back as Rashid Khan with a plethora of variations at his disposal made it difficult for Iyer and Pant(18) to up the ante.
Iyer perished to Kaul in a bid to up the ante, and all of a sudden a double wicket break from Rashid that accounted for Pant and a bizarre run-out of Ojha, Delhi on the back of some lusty blows by Shankar (23 off 13) posted 5-163 in 20 overs.
Match Stats: DD (3-164, Shaw 65, Rashid Khan 2-23) lost to SRH (3-164, Alex Hales 45, Mishra 2-19) by seven wickets.
