ECB mulls for 100-ball cricket tournament

England Cricket Board has made a surprising announcement stating that England’s new eight-team domestic tournament wouldn’t be played in the traditional T20 format.

The tournament set to begin from 2020 would be played across two 100-ball innings.

The new tournament had been billed as a new T20 competition since it was first proposed to make them stand in competition with other popular franchise leagues around the world.

The ECB confirmed that matches in the new competition will be based on 15 overs of six balls each with an extra ten deliveries added on. Though, the ECB hasn’t clarified yet about how extra deliveries would be included.

ECB hopes that the new format will simplify the games and would attract a new audience and separate the new tournament from the existing T20 Blast.

The women’s tournament will also be based on the same 100-ball format.

2) the issue isn’t the number of balls or overs etc. It’s whether having eight new super teams borks the 18 first class Counties. Or 10 of them at least. Which it might well do.

As if the general public didn’t understand cricket enough in the current formats, we go and add another one.
