IPL 2018 matches moved out of Chennai due to security concerns over Cauvery protests

The remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled to be held in Chennai have been shifted out as the local police have asserted that it will not be able to guarantee security after raging protests over Cauvery water sharing dispute had threatened to rock the opening game on Tuesday, reported ANI sources.

The match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Kolkata Knight Riders was held despite the protests over Chennai streets and a pair of shoes was also thrown on the field by a spectator who was later taken into police custody.

CSK fan and team mascot Saravanan Hari, known for his characteristic yellow-paint look at IPL games for supporting Chennai, was also  attacked by the protestors outside the stadium.

Clouds of doubts over the match in Chennai were looming as prominent film stars and politicians came out to back the opposition of IPL matches in Chennai.

However, the IPL governing council (GC) had gone ahead after they received assurance of security by the state government and police.
