Mithali Raj creates history, becomes the most capped woman player in the ODIs

India skipper, Mithali Raj has become the most capped player in the ODIs turning out for the 192nd time when she led India to play against England in the first match of their ICC Women’s Championship ODI series on 6 April in Nagpur.

Raj also holds the record for being the highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs. She broke the record of Charlotte Edwards, the former England Skipper, prior to the beginning of the match.

Mithali Raj made her ODI debut for India in June 1999 against Ireland in Milton Keynes where she scored 114* as India sealed the match by 161 runs.

She has played 10 Test matches and 72 Twenty20 Internationals over the years.

Jhulan Goswami currently holds the no.3 position in the list of most-capped players in WODIs with England’s Jenny Gun as the only other active player in the top-five.

Raj also broke the record of Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run-getter in women’s ODI during ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.

She also became the first to score 6000 runs in the format.

Notably, Raj has also completed 50 ODIs against England and has missed only 13 ODIs since her debut featuring in 75.19 percent of all ODIs Indian women team have ever played since 1978.
