Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to end a two-game losing run in all competitions when they host Southampton in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Already facing a 10-point deficit at the top, Mauricio Pochetino’s men can’t afford more slip-up in the race for the Champions League spots.

While Southampton let a golden opportunity to move into the top-10 pass by them after they lost 1-3 at home against local rivals Bournemouth

That said, 8 points from the first six games is still a start better than last season. But the season is long and Ralph Hasenhüttl knows that a few weeks of unproductivity could engulf the team in the relegation mist.

Match Details:

The Premier League match will be played between Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in London, England. The ground has a capacity of 62,062.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Summer signing Giovani Lo Celso has been ruled out until at least November after reporting back from the International duty with Argentina with a hip injury.

Another summer arrival Ryan Sessegnon is yet to feature for Spurs this season due to a hamstring problem. But the teenager returned to the training last week only to suffer another setback in his rehabilitation. The former Fulham winger is out of this game as well.

But Pochetino can’t blame injuries for Spurs’ bad form!

Other than the above-mentioned two players, Pochetino has all the key members of his squad available for selection. That’s why it’s not clear why Spurs have been playing like a team with heavy legs, lacking the usual energy and intensity.

Believe it or not, Pochetino’s own position at the club is now coming under threat, something which looked beyond the distant possibility when Spurs went all the way to the Champions League final last season.

That said, it’s not all about the manager’s future, the club has its own ambitions to meet and repercussions can be expected if the team fails to turn its fortune around.

Pochetino looks to rectify the errors from King Power Stadium!

A lot of things went wrong against Leicester City last weekend. Despite ending the first half in lead, thanks to an acrobatic finish from Harry Kane, Spurs failed to see out the game and eventually lost the match 2-1.

It was clear that Spurs were overrun and overmastered in the midfield, failing to match the technical suave of James Maddison and Yuri Tielemans. That’s why we expect Christien Eriksen to return to the midfield. The Danish is likely to replace Moussa Sissoko here.

Dele Alli and Eric Dier both featured in the Carabao Cup, but the duo remains a tad short on match fitness at the moment. Expect them to feature from the bench.

Tottenham Hotspur Probable XI:

Hugo Lloris (GK), Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Tanguy N’Dombele, Harry Winks, Erik Lamela, Christien Eriksen, Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane

Southampton FC Team News:

Ralph Hasenhüttl confirmed in his pre-match press-conference that Moussa Djenepo will miss the away trip against Tottenham Hotspur due to an injury. The 21-year-old Malian international has been in fine form since joining the South Coast club from Standard Liege, scoring twice in the league.

Southampton boss also revealed that goalkeeper Alex McCarthy remains a doubt for the game with a muscle injury. He will be assessed before the game.

Expect Hasenhüttl to ring in a few changes!

Southampton are coming into this game on the back of an incredible 0-4 win against their local rivals Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup. This was the first away win for the Saints against the Pompey since 1984.

Danny Ings got himself two goals and will definitely want another start here. Jannik Vestergaard will come into the side and will partner Jan Bednarek at the back after getting a rest in the midweek, while Ryan Bertrand is expected to start ahead of Kevin Danso at right-back.

In addition, Alex McCarthy’s injury means, Angus Gunn will start un-opposed in goal in this game.

Inconsistent Redmond:

Nathan Redmond scored the fourth goal in the league cup, but it doesn’t hide the fact that the former England U-21 international has made an inconsistent start to the season.

Che Adams’ consistency, Ings’ goals in the last game and Sofiane Boufal’s performance so far this season, means the 25-year-old could be benched here.

Southampton Probable XI:

Gunn (GK), Cedric Soares, Jan Bednarek, Jannik Vestergaard, Ryan Bertrand, Pierre-Emile Hojberg, Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Sofiane Boufal, Che Adams, Danny Ings

Likely to score:

  • For Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Kane, Erik Lamela, Son Heung-Min
  • For Southampton: Che Adams, Danny Ings

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Harry Kane: The world was tumbling in front of him, and he was losing his feet. But somehow he managed to send the ball into the net in the first half against Leicester. A true striker’s goal. As always, he will be the main man for Spurs here.

Current Premier League season:

  • Games: 06
  • Goals: 04
  • Assists: 01

Christian Eriksen: It’s not a secret that Eriksen hasn’t been his usual self this season. The rumors have it has it’s because he wanted to leave the club in the summer, but couldn’t. At the moment, he is a Spurs player. So expect him to gain his touchback.

2018-19 Premier League season:

  • Games: 35
  • Goals: 08
  • Assists: 12

Son Heung-Min: Another player who has been somewhat inconsistent since the Champions League final. A top player though. Too good for the inconsistency.

Current Premier League season:

  • Games: 04
  • Goals: 02
  • Assists: 01

Danny Ings: As mentioned, he scored twice against Portsmouth in midweek. An in-form Ings can make this team a whole more potent.

Current Premier League season:

  • Games: 06
  • Goals: 01
  • Assists: 01
