With the Premier League getting back in business this week, Southampton will be hosting Eddie Howe’s AFC Bournemouth as both teams are neck and neck in terms of points. However, Bournemouth is a spot above Southampton at ninth courtesy a better goal difference.

The Saints are undergoing a good run of form with four unbeaten games on the trot in spite early defeats to Liverpool and Burnley.

Post the early defeats, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side won away to Brighton, beat Fulham in the League cup, followed by a vital draw to Manchester United at home, to finally winning newly promoted against Sheffield.

If Southampton manages to secure all three points over the weekend, then they’ll temporarily move to the third spot in the league table while being level on points with Manchester City.

Southampton’s talisman Nathan Redmond, who’s started off the campaign with seven goals and four assists will be unavailable due to an ankle injury he sustained prior to the international break. However,  It is being said that Redmond will return to training sooner rather than later.

More worrying news ahead as Djenepo is also ruled out from the game against AFC Bournemouth due to an undisclosed injury.

The cherries are coming off an emphatic 3-1 win against Everton but have yet to show signs of consistency in their performances. Prior to the win versus the Merseyside blue,  Bournemouth has lost Leicester and Manchester City as well.

Adam Smith, Charlie Daniels, Arnaut Groenveld, Junior Stanislas, and Dan Gosling will be away from footballing action for quite some time.

Close to eight first-team players are doubtful for the game versus Southampton.

Simon Francis and Lloyd Kelly do have the possibility of making it to the bench as they’re back in training.

Ryan Fraser could be given a go in the starting eleven after impressing the manager by coming off the bench and scoring over the weekend.

Prediction: 

With Southampton having doubts over Redmond and Djenepo, gaining three points will not be easy in spite of the home support. Bournemouth will fancy themselves to finally come off good at St Mary’s but a draw for now sounds like a plausible result.
