Dean Elgar is counted among the grittiest modern-day opening batsmen. Elgar captained the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2006. Currently, he plays for Northern cricket team and Titans cricket team in the major South African cricket competitions. Dean gave alot of impressive performances in his formative years, but it took him six years to impress the selectors of South Africa.
In the year 2012 ge finally made it to the national squad for the Sri Lanka series, but in between, he was withdrawn due to his injury.

Dean is the first South African batsman who faces 200 or more balls in both innings of a test, against NewZealand in 2017.

Dean wait two times for his ODI debut as he was selected for the Sri Lanka ODI series in early 2012, he had to back due to an injury. And again when he supposed to make his ODI debut against England, the match was abandoned due to rain.
