Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 6th T20I
Venue: R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo
Shakib added to Bangladesh squad ahead of the virtual semi-final
Bangladesh received a much-needed tonic to their beleaguered hopes when star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. who has been nursing a finger injury was added to the squad. Shakib’s inclusion, if he passes the fitness test will provide a much-needed fillip to his team’s chances ahead of the virtual knockout encounter against host Sri Lanka.
For the hosts, Sri Lanka, the match gives them one final chance to redeem themselves and get their fledgling campaign back on track, one that had started on a bright note with a victory over India in the opening encounter
Recent form:
Sri Lanka: LLWWWI
Bangladesh: LWLLL
When: Friday, March 16, 2018
Pitch and weather conditions:
While the humidity levels will be at an all-time high at 86 percent, the weather forecast in Colombo remains the same with showers expected during the late afternoon.
The pitch may play out it slow as a lot of matches have been played on it and also due to possible thundershowers, there may a bit for the fast bowlers up-front.
Analyzing key players from both the teams:
Sri Lanka
While Sri Lanka had a blistering start to the tournament with an amazing win over India in the opening encounter, their campaign has gone off the boil thanks especially to their underperforming middle order and their bowling stocks which apart from spinner Dananjaya have flattered to deceive.
The hosts though would be relieved by the news that their in-form opener Kusal Mendis passed the fitness test after the vile opener had suffered a quadriceps muscle strain and he along with wicketkeeper Kusal Perera would again be the cornerstone to the island nation’s success.
Bangladesh
There is an eerie similarity between Bangladesh and the hosts and it spills over not only in their batting but bowling reserves too. While Bangladesh’s middle-order, which has been heavily dependent on Rahim, would get a much-needed fillip with Shakib’s inclusion, he would also add variety to their beleaguered spin bowling stocks which have been lacked depth and variety thus far.
Probable XI: Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah (c), Sabbir Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Abu Hider Rony, Mustafizur Rahman, Nazmul Islam
